3 Benefits of Qi Gong

Qi Gong

Introduction

What is Qi Gong? Qi Gong (aka Chi Kung) is a form of internal exercise that consists of three layers: form, breathing, and visualization. The term "gong" in qi gong stands for form or art, and the term "qi" in qi gong stands for energy, the cosmic energy of the universe. "Qi" is called "chi" in Chinese, and "ki" in Japanese, as in Aikido. Anyway, qi is the energy that you work with when you practice qi gong. Why should you consider practicing qi gong? You should consider practicing qi gong for the benefits that it can bestow on you, namely, better health, internal strength, and spiritual growth.

Qi gong can make you healthy

Qi Gong can help you improve your health. All you have to do are few simple qi gong exercises religiously everyday. In a sense, it is like a physical exercise in the sense that in order to make progress and maintain that progress, you must exercise every day. That is to say that you must practice the appropriate qi gong form together with its accompanying breathing and visualization exercises every single day to benefit from qi gong practice. Over time you will begin to see the benefits of this internal exercise just like you eventually see the benefits of all of your external exercises from the exertion you perform in the gym or at home. It doesn't happen over night. It takes time, work, persistence, and commitment. What are some of the benefits of practicing qi gong? To name a few: You can clear the toxics from your body. You can strengthen your organs--your heart, lungs, kidney, liver, and bones. Also, you can cure, some qi gong masters claim, diseases that Western medicine say are incurable. Examples are cancer, diabetes, and ulcers.

Qi gong can make you powerful

Qi gong can help you improve your internal power. The exercise might be gentle and simple, but the results are unbelievably powerful. One qi gong exercise I read about is called pushing mountains. All you have to do is extend your arms out gently and contract them in the same way while breathing and, at the same time, visualizing yourself pushing a mountain away from and to you. However, you must perform this simple exercise every single day. By doing this easy yet powerful exercise, it is said that you will eventually break stones with your bare hands. This is the internal power, qi, aye, cosmic energy that is behind the incredible breaking power of karate, kung fu, and other martial arts. By learning to manipulate your chi energy, you will be able to withstand punches to the stomach or strikes to the head or midsection without blinking an eye, winching in pain, or getting hurt.

Qi gong can lead you to the realization that "I and my father are one"

Last, qi gong help you grow spiritually. It opens what it called the third eye, that is, your latent psychic abilities. It is said that many advanced qi gong masters have powers of clairvoyance, psychokinesis, precognition, and the like. Not that they strive for those abilities, they are just gems that come along the way as they make their way to the ultimate prize of achieving Oneness with God, the Universe, Nature, the Tao, Buddhahood, or Cosmic Consciousness.

Summary

Qi gong, it turns out, is not merely simple internal exercises that allows you to improve your health. It is not merely internal power that allows you to perform eye-stopping feats of absolutely incredible strength. Nor is it merely spiritual meditation that leads you down the path of Oneness with Nature, God, or the Universe. On the contrary, qi gong is all of this and more.

Thank you, prettydarkhorse, for stopping by. Now you know about qi gong. How about performing a qi gong movement together some day. And don't forget about the dance you owe me, too. What do you say to that?

Thank you, Pamela for visiting my hub. Like you, I, too, was in the dark about qi gong. I had never heard of it. Had I known about it, I would have studied it long ago. Again, Pam, thanks for stopping by.

I have practiced chi (energy) gung (work) fro the past 23 years, daily, outdoors, 40 minutes. I have known chi gung masters, and I have never known one to solely perform one exercise and acheieve phenomenal powers. They all practice a variety of exercises in addition to meditation, dietary discipline, etc. for 30+ years. None of them acheive spiritual powers (via exercise) to the extent that they can say, like Jesus " I and my father are one." That generally requires years, decades of deep meditation and assistance of a guru, as you cannot eat or exercise your way to heaven, oneness with God, which is what that phrase suggests. Didn't Buddha sit facing a wall and meditate for 14 years before realizing God? The article was good but I would have liked if you mentioned what kind of chi gung you have been doing and for how long.

Thanks for your comments, richardheft. I am not an authority on qi gong. Nor I am an authority on how one can achieve oneness with the Universe. My article sought only to do two things: Give a brief description of what Qi Gong is and state what benefits one can acquire by practicing Qi Gong, namely, Health, Martial, and Spiritual. Again, thanks for your remarks.

Great hub, I'm not familiar with qi gong however, I like the idea of the exercise being 3 layered (form, breathing, and visualization). I think that if one can slow down, breathe, and look within one's self; there are the answers to many things that might be ailing the mind, body, and or spirit. Thanks for sharing your insight. :)

I certainly believe it does work, the same as placebo, it is basically the same principle, if you make your body believe in the power of this physical and mental training it will help you heal faster, as I said the same as placebo does.

It is not at all a negative critic but an enlightenment of the power and possibilities of our minds in the healing process, and the same as stress damages our organs, positive thoughts heals them.
